What You Need to Know

After Your Treatment

BROW AFTERCARE

Micropigmentation procedures are affected by the "canvas" (your skin) that they are performed on. Lifestyle, medications, smoking, metabolism, facial surgery and other procedures, and age of skin all contribute to fading. The initial application is always applied conservatively because every person's skin is different, and the final color can only be precisely determined and adjusted during a follow-up appointment after the initial application has fully healed. Because of this, the micropigmentation process is not complete after the initial procedure. In all cases, a follow-up appointment is required approximately 6-8 weeks after your initial application to fine tune and ensure the best result. Though rare, infection is possible. If you see signs of infection such as persistent increased redness or swelling, fever, drainage, or oozing, contact your doctor immediately.

*Wash hands before touching your permanent makeup. This prevents contamination and infection.

*Use provided after care wipes to blot the procedure area every hour for the first 3-4 hours. Discontinue after 4 hours then begin ointment.

*Beginning 4 hours after your procedure, apply a very thin coat of ointment to the area twice a day for 5-10 days (or until all scabbing/crust has come off) after cleansing with a gentle cleanser.

*When the area starts to flake, leave it. Do not pick, peel, or pull on the skin.

*Avoid sweating such as from vigorous excercise for 1-week post-procedure.

For at least 2-weeks post-procedure or until healing is complete (whichever is longer).

Keep your hands clean and avoid touching the affected area(s).

Do not scrub or pick treated areas.

Do not use peroxide or Neosporin on treated areas.

Do not expose area to direct sun or to tanning beds.

Avoid exposing area to excessive moisture or humidity, such as: facials, swimming, whirlpools (hot tubs), saunas, steam rooms, and steamy showers.

Avoid Retin-A, moisturizers, glycolic acids, exfoliants and anti-aging products at all times (not just during healing) on all micropigmented areas. These can cause pigments to fade and lighten prematurely.

Pigments will slowly fade over time according to one's metabolism, skin type, sun exposure, medication, facial surgery, and smoking. Schedule maintenance visits as needed to keep it looking fresh.

Periodic touch ups will ensure longer lasting results.

Avoid eyeborow tinting within 48 hours before or two weeks after the procedure.

If you've ever had micropigmentation before, there are a lot of unknowns. One of the most common questions we're asked is what to expect during the healing process. While every person is different, and some heal more quickly or slowly than others, here's generally what to expect.

Temporary side effects from micropigmentation include but are not limited to:

  • Redness, swelling, puffiness, bruising, dry patches and tenderness.
  • You should expect to lose approximately 1/3 of the initial color during the healing process. We have selected the optimal pigments for you with this in mind. In approximately 6 days it may appear too light. After about 10 days, the color will show more. It will appear softer when completely healed.

Day Effect

  1. The eyebrows are approximately 20-25% bolder and darker in width than they will be when healed. Expect light to moderate swelling and redness. The skin's redness causes the color of the pigment to appear darker. There is some swelling, although difficult to actually see due to the thickness of the skin in the eyebrow area. This will subside. Exfoliation, which begins in a few days, will cause the excess pigment surrounding the eyebrow to flake away and a narrower appearance will result. New skin will heal over the pigmented area and result in a softer appearance of your eyebrows. Don't be concerned that your eyebrows initially appear darker and heavier in size than you desire. This is all part of the process.
  2. Conditions remain the same.
  3. Eyebrows start to itch and will appear a bit thicker in texture. Exfoliation begins.
  4. The skin begins to flake, peeling from the outside edges first.
  5. Color finishes flaking off and appears softer andgrayer for a few days until color clarifies.
  6. The color has lightened from it's initial overly-dark appearance. For the next few days, the color may now be lighter than what the final color will be.

10-15. The final color begins to stabilize and show through. The color will continue to soften as the healing process complete

Day 1 The eyes will be swollen and sore, like you have been crying, with a heavier eye makeup look. For the first 3-4 days, the color is darker than it will appear when healed. Apply a light veil of Afterlnked® ointment sparingly to the treated areas with a clean fingertip. Too much ointment makes the swollen area too wet. Use the ointment in the morning and evening. A third application is fine if needed, but don't over use. Clean the eyes in the evening with clean water and a tissue.

Day 2 The eyelids are swollen for a few hours after waking up, still with heavier makeup look. When you wake up, refresh the treated area with cool water. Tissue dry and re-apply ointment. The eyes will be swollen and sore but will get better throughout the day. In the evening, gently cleanse with cool water, tissue dry, and re-apply ointment.

Day 3 Swelling decreases but is not gone entirely. There is a tight feeling. The top layers of skin begin to lift away. The soreness will become less as the treated area begins to exfoliate. A rough texture appears on the skin. Use a small amount of ointment if needed.

Day 4 There is a pinching feeling. Some itching is normal as the skin begins to flake. When the eyeliner area begins to exfoliate, do not pick at it! Discontinue ointment. It will flake off with the movement of the eye.

Day 5 Color is somewhat grayish and will take a few more days to clarify to full color. The pigmented area begins to shrink and soften in size and color over the next few days. Exfoliation completes. The color will appear a bit "frosty," but will clarify in a few days.

Day 6 The color has lightened from its initial overly-dark appearance. For the next few days, the color may now be lighter than what the final color will be.

Day 10 The final color begins to stabilize and show through. The color will continue to soften as the healing process completes. The final color will not be revealed for four weeks.

REMOVAL/LIGHTENING AFTERCARE

Please read carefully. Following all aftercare instructions is critical to preventing complications and scarring and achieving optimum results.

1. KEEP THE AREA CLEAN and OPEN TO THE AIR. Do not cover it with a Band-Aid or anything else; leave it open to the air. Air and oxygen provide good and faster healing. You should not touch the area at all, but if you find yourself needing to, please make sure your hands are exceptionally clean.

2. CLEAN BY BLOTTING AREA with saline 3 to 4 times a day using a paper towel or gauze. NO ICE.

3. DO NOT SOAK the treated area in water. You can shower as normal, but keep the area out of the shower spray as best you can. Do not let the area stay wet for more than a few minutes. It is best to keep it dry, but if you do get it wet, gently pat it dry.

4. NO BATHING, SWIMMING, SAUNAS, HOT TUBS, TANNING, OR EXERCISE. NO EXCEPTIONS.

5. DO NOT disrupt the scabbing process (i.e., no picking, scratching, etc.). All scabbing needs to fall off naturally. If you force or pick a scab off, you will disrupt the process and possibly cause scarring. Keeping the scabs on as long as possible is critical to achieving optimum results.

6. TREAT AREA WITH TLC. DO NOT DO ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE ISSUES OR PROBLEMS TO THE TREATED AREA.

7. ONCE ALL SCABBING HAS NATURALLY FALLEN OFF, apply one drop of Vitamin E Oil 3 to 4 times throughout the day for a minimum of 4 weeks or until the next lightening session. DO NOT apply the Vitamin E oil until all scabbing has naturally fallen off. Our goal is to keep the area as dry as possible until all scabs have naturally fallen off.

8. LIPS pigment removal: drink all liquids with a straw until all scabbing has naturally fallen off. Brush with Toms of Maine or Classic Crest (no whitening, no peroxide toothpaste. Cut food into small bites, but don't bite into a sandwich. Try to keep mouth expressions to a minimum. It is essential to the process and integrity of the skin that 8 full weeks of healing take place before another lightening session can be done. No exceptions!.

*Lightening and/or removing unwanted pigment is a long process, requiring patience. This is true whether you are choosing a lightening product service or laser. Please be patient and give the process a fair chance to work. Expect visible and wanted results in 2 to 5 sessions. How many sessions are needed will depend on how saturated the pigment is, how deep it was implanted, and how much needs to be removed for the desired result. In many cases, only a percentage of the pigment needs to be lightened/removed, and then we can continue the correction process by color correcting or color shifting. In those cases where we have pigment misplaced or in an unwanted area, color correcting will not be an option, and removing as much of the pigment as possible will be our ultimate goal. Results cannot be foreseen, predicted, or guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us. If at any time you have any green or yellow puss in the area of the removal during the healing process, please call us @ 918-777-1049
